12V 500A Electropolishing Rectifier

A configurable 12V 500A industrial DC power supply for electropolishing, with project-specific cooling, controls and enclosure options.

The 12V 500A Electropolishing Rectifier supplies 6 kW of adjustable DC power for anodic surface finishing. It can serve compact production tanks used to smooth surfaces, reduce micro-burrs and improve the appearance of suitable metal parts.

Controlled metal removal instead of deposition

In electropolishing, the workpiece is the anode and a controlled amount of metal is removed from high points on the surface. Correct electrical conditions can support surface leveling, brighter appearance and easier cleaning while reducing sharp microscopic irregularities. Results also depend on alloy, electrolyte, temperature, agitation, fixture contact, cathode placement and treatment time.

Is 12V enough for the process?

Voltage must allow the actual electrolyte, temperature, electrode spacing and fixture losses to reach the required current density. Stainless steel tank electropolishing is often discussed around 12–18V, but a 12V ceiling should be checked against the loaded bath rather than assumed suitable for every installation. Aluminum, copper, titanium and other alloys can use different process windows.

Choosing the current capacity

Current is calculated from the total immersed workpiece area multiplied by the process current density. A 500A unit may suit approximately 12.5–25 dm² when a stainless steel process uses 20–40 A/dm², before allowing for the actual maximum load and operating conditions. Larger batches require a higher-current rectifier and appropriately sized racks and busbars.
